Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days 2013 Details Announced

Door County, WI - Save the date! The sixth biennial Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days in Madison is confirmed for Wednesday and Thursday, May 15-16. The purpose of Legislative Days is to educate state officials about Door and Kewaunee Counties, and to lobby for state action to help address local issues and concerns. This year's events are building directly on the success of prior Legislative Days events, which brought the specific concerns of the community directly to elected representatives and influential government appointees.

A volunteer committee is working to develop the 2013 legislative and state agency agenda topics and issues that will be presented in Madison. To provide input for the 2013 agenda, contact Legislative Days Agenda Committee Chair, Rob Burke at 920-746-2260.

For those delegates with limited time, the main events are scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, when delegates will call on state legislators in the afternoon and enjoy a reception, an authentic Door County fish boil and entertainment with legislators and guests that evening. The remainder of the two day event will be reserved for visiting state officials and selected state agencies. Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days will again be headquartered at the Inn On The Park hotel on Capitol Square in downtown Madison. We will be seeking about 100 local delegates to join us in Madison.

Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days is planned and executed by a volunteer Steering Committee. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the planning of Legislative Days 2013, please contact Jennifer Brown (920-487-5233) or Bill Chaudoir (920-743-3113 x203). Additional information about the Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days event can be found at www.facebook.com/DKLegislativeDay.

March 18, 2011.  In light of recent events at the state capitol, the Door Kewaunee Legislative Days scheduled for April 12-13, 2011 has been postponed; the event will be rescheduled to a future date. We look forward to hosting the fifth Legislative Days, which provides the opportunity for local citizens, business and government representatives to bring specific concerns of the community directly to elected officials and influential government appointees in Madison. The event also provides a wonderful venue to showcase local foods, wines and our famous Door County fish boil for our friends in Madison.

A small delegation of local officials is planning an abbreviated trip to Madison during the week of May 16, 2011 to deliver a brief, targeted agenda to state officials and legislative leaders.

Past major successes of previous Legislative Day events include approvals and funding for projects such as the STH 42/57 4-lane expansion, Sturgeon Bay bridge improvements, WireTech relocation, tourism marketing, Shipbuilding Cluster Plan, phosphorous fertilizer control, beach water quality testing, invasive species abatement and registration of underground propane gas lines.
