Door County Legislative Days Delegates Sought

All Door County citizens are invited to participate in the 2005 Door County Legislative Days.  Invitations have been sent to Door County’s elected officials, business owners and 2003 Legislative Day delegates for the 2005 Legislative Days event scheduled for May 4 through 6, 2005.  Delegate forms are also available on the web at www.DCLegislativeDay.com or by calling the Door County Economic Development Corporation at 743-3113 or the Door County Chamber of Commerce at 743-4456.

The inaugural Door County Legislative Day in Madison was held in April 2003.  The exceptional turnout of 100 local delegates, combined with the warm reception that the delegation received in Madison and, most importantly, the excellent progress that has been achieved on our 2003 Legislative Day Agenda, has inspired the Steering Committee to repeat and even expand the event in 2005.

The 2005 Door County Legislative Days in Madison is scheduled for May 4 – 6, 2005.  The event will again be headquartered at the Best Western Inn on the Park Hotel on Capitol Square in downtown Madison.  The event has been extended this year to provide more time for Door County delegates to meet with legislators, government leaders and state agencies.  But for those delegates with limited time, the main events are scheduled on one day, Thursday, May 5th, when delegates will call on state legislators in the afternoon and enjoy a reception, an authentic Door County Fish Boil and Door County entertainment with legislators that evening.

The three day event has been structured to allow delegates to participate as their individual schedules allow.  The itinerary will include meetings with state agencies the afternoon of May 4th, the morning of May 5th and the morning of May 6th.  Delegates will be joined by state Legislative leaders for breakfast on Thursday morning.  Thursday’s lunch will feature Door County Legislators, Senator Lasee and Representative Bies.  The evening reception for Legislators will be followed by an authentic Door County Fish Boil and entertainment by American Folklore Theatre, featuring excerpts from their smash hit “Guys On Ice”.  Governor Doyle is planning to join the delegates for breakfast on Friday.  Delegate meetings with state agencies will follow breakfast on the 6th.

All participants are required to attend one of the Legislative Day Training Session.  The Training Sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, April 27th – 6:30pm @ Door County Public Library in Sturgeon Bay and Thursday, April 28th – 1:30pm and 6:30pm at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall.

The registration fee of $25 is possible thanks to contributions from local governments, area business and civic associations and local business owners.  The registration fee includes the required training session, all meals and a Door County Legislative Day shirt.
